Patron: Matthew Barley
Matthew trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and also Moscow Conservatoire. Matthew’s activities in performance, improvisation, cross – disciplinary projects, composition and pioneering community programmes soon developed to form a uniquely eclectic international career.
A major achievement of Matthew’s career so far was a marathon UK tour in 2006, playing 20 recitals and giving 17 workshops in 30 days! The tour was a huge critical success.
Matthew’s many concerto engagements have included; London Chamber Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, London Sinfonietta, Melbourne Symphony (Tortelier), New Zealand Symphony, Buenos Aires Philarmonic, plus many others. He has also performed and produced a 27-concert worldwide tour for violinist Viktoria Mullova, Through the Looking Glass. Not only this, Matthew has collaborated with numerous other musicians over the years and has an ongoing collaboration with Indian sarod player, Amjad Ali Khan.
One of the many reasons the Firebird Trust believe Matthew Barley is a great patron for the organisation is his pioneering approach to education, community music and training orchestral players. His work in this area is now internationally renowned.
