Musical Interaction develops social and communication skills. The work offers children and young people on the autism spectrum the fundamental communication skills using interactive music sessions.
Musical Interaction facilitates an interactive process between the musician, the key worker and the pupil. The pupil is encouraged to take the lead, whilst the key worker’s role is to promote engagement and to extend interaction with the pupil. The music specialist’s role is to facilitate the interaction between key worker and pupil.
Shirley Novak is an experienced artist delivering music and media centred sessions to young people on the autism spectrum. She believes music can be a fun and motivating way to teach children, especially those with distinct learning needs.
“I was fortunate enough to attend a Seminar by Shirley and when I saw the work I realised it was just the type of thing we were looking for and look forward to putting your ideas into practice.”
