Rikki-Thomas Martinez, Gary Hammond and Dave "Stickman" Higgins have been spending the Spring Term (2008) working closely with pupils at Springwell Community School in Staveley (near Chesterfield) and its feeder primaries helping them develop their vocal skills, as well as considerably widening everyone's experiences of of popular and world music.

Visiting the musicians at one of their recent sessions, Firebird's Executive Director, Simon Steptoe, commented, "The results the musicians are achieving with these pupils is fantastic and a direct result of their commitment to inclusive practice. All the pupils involved can contribute equally, no matter what their musical experiences and talents. I believe the project is a fine example of how highly skilled and committed musicians can really make a difference to the lives of young people."

Later in the term musicians and pupils will be recording the results of this term's work in the school's very own recording studio housed within their new performing arts centre.
