an exciting and unique collaboration

Based on an original idea by world-renowned cellist, Matthew Barley, and generously funded by the Clore Duffield Foundation through their Small Grants Programme, Enough Space for Everyone was a ground-breaking pilot project that brought together the muscians of Matthew's group Between the Notes, astronomers from Leicester University, young people from mainstream education and special needs sectors, to explore the idea of space and use these experiences as inspiration for the creation of new and exciting music.

Enough space for Everyone - 2007

Taking place in February 2007 in Leicester at The Richard Attenbough Centre and National Space Centre, the project explored ideas such as

  • The Rhythmic Beat of Cataclysmically Varying Stars (Darren Baskill)
  • The Largest Sound in the Universe (David Boyce)
  • Space Journeys and Travels in the Solar System (Gillian Butcher)

each topic being presented first by an astronmer from the University of Leicester (see above) and then explored musically under the guidance of Matthew and his group.

The project ended with a spectacular performance at The Richard Attenborough Centre on Saturday 17th February 2007 at the end of an intensive week of workshops and rehearsals.
