Executive Director, Simon Steptoe, has just returned from a ground-breaking trip to West Java, Indonesia to meet with the province's Vice-Governor.

Together, Simon and the Vice-Governor explored how local artists from the UK and Indonesia might be brought together through a programme of creative trade and collaboration between the two countries - and in particular between West Java and the East Midlands. The initial outcome of the meeting was a generous offer from the Vice-Governor to host a special event in the provincial capital, Bandung, showcasing the very best of West Javanese arts and culture to which a special delegation of artists and art managers from the UK would be invited to attend.

 
An exciting venture and a potentially unique opportunity for artists in the UK.... a project-in-the-making that Firebird is looking forward to working on over the coming year.
