And to kick things off with the pelog gamelan in its new home at Lincoln Minster School, Firebird's Executive Director, Simon Steptoe, recently ran a couple of INSET sessions for teachers - one for Lincolnshire Music Service and one for the Minster School itself.
The purpose of the sessions was not only to introduce the traditional performance practices of Javanese gamelan but also to explore how teachers can adapt their own classroom practice in developing their own individual bespoke schemes of work on the instruments.
One teacher commented: "...a very enjoyable session, extremely informative and, I have to say, actually inspiring."

This group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 7:00pm - 9:00pm at the City of Lincoln Community College on Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln, and membership is open to all. You don't need any prior musical knowledge just an enthusiasm for learning something new.
